Use the Rectangle Selection Tool to select square or rectangular areas.


Position the mouse cursor over your picture where you want the top left corner of the selection rectangle to begin. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to where you would like the opposite corner. When your rectangle reaches the desired size and shape, release the mouse button.


You can hold down the SHIFT key while drawing the rectangle to restrict the selection's shape to a perfect square.
