Use the Text Tool to add text to your picture.
Position the mouse cursor over your picture where you want the top left corner of the text to begin. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to where you would like the opposite corner. When your rectangle reaches the desired size and shape, release the mouse button. After you release the mouse button, PixelNEO's Text Editor will appear allowing you to enter and format text.
At the top of the Text Editor are several useful buttons. Click the button to import text from an external file or click the button to insert special symbols (like © and ®). The remaining buttons allow you to access the Windows clipboard and set the font face, size and style. Enable the Show Font in Editor option to preview the selected font and size as you enter text.
The OK button saves your text and returns you to the PixelNEO screen. The text will appear on your picture at the location that you specified, ready for final positioning. The Cancel button returns you to the PixelNEO screen without adding text to your picture.
Positioning and Rotating Text
After finishing with the editor, your text will be ready for positioning. At this point, you may move the text by placing your mouse cursor in the center of the text box. The cursor will change to an open hand . Hold down the left mouse button and drag the text to a new location and release. You can also move the text using your keyboard's arrow keys alone or in combination with the SHIFT key.
You may modify the shape of the text box by using the mouse to drag the handles which appear as small squares at the corners of the text box. When your mouse is properly positioned over one of these handles, the cursor will change to a pointing hand . Click the left mouse button and drag the handle to a new position. As you move a handle, the text box will stretch or shrink. When you are satisfied with the new shape, release the mouse button and the text will be reformatted to fit.
The text can be rotated at any angle by using the mouse to drag the special rotation grip that appears to the side of the text box. When your mouse is properly positioned over the grip, the cursor will change to a hand with an arrow . Press down on the left mouse button and drag the grip in the direction you want the text to be rotated. As you move the mouse, the text will rotate. You can also choose a more precise rotation angle from the Option Panel.
The Option Panel as it appears when the Text Tool is active.
If you need to make changes to the text, click the Edit button on the Option Panel (pictured above). You also may change the font face, size, style, alignment and rotation angle of the text using the controls on the Option Panel. The Fill Selector and Color Palette can be used to change the color and the method (solid color, gradient, image tile, pattern, etc.) used to paint the interior of the text.
Text Quality and Special Effects
You can adjust the quality of the text and apply special effects using the Text Options button on the Option Panel.
The Anti-aliasing options can be used to control the quality of the text's appearance. The None/Off option produces text with a rough jagged edge. The Windows Standard option uses Windows built-in text smoothing feature which works well with smaller fonts. The Enhanced, Sharp and Soft options use PixelNEO's own font smoothing that works best for medium and larger fonts. The Preview window shows a sample of what the selected options will look like.
The Line Spacing option controls the amount of spacing between multiple lines of text. A value of 100% will render text with the selected font's normal line spacing. Values less than 100% will move the lines closer together, and values greater than 100% will move the lines farther apart.
Text Effects (Drop Shadow, Block Shadow, Halo and Mirror) can be used to make your text stand out. Selecting an effect will enable one or more sliders which can be used to adjust the direction and appearance of the effect. The color used for the effects can be changed using the Color Palette's Shadow Color option.
Enable the Outline option to add a border to your text. The color used for the outline can be changed using the Color Palette's Line Color option. Outlines work best with larger font sizes.
Click OK to see the effect setting applied to your text.
PixelNEO allows either TrueType/OpenType or Bitmap fonts to be selected. However, due to their inherent limitations, bitmap fonts do not support anti-aliasing or text effects. To use these features, you must select a TrueType/OpenType font.
When you are satisfied with the position and appearance of the text, click the right mouse button or press the Enter key to affix the text to your picture. You may cancel the text placement by pressing the Esc key.
Remember, if you accidentally place the text in the wrong spot, use the Undo command to restore the picture to its previous state.
